winter1.jpgDay One

Meet at Stonetrail at 9am. Meet fellow riders, horses and your guides and groom and tack up. Pack your saddla bag and set off around 10am. From our gate we join a historic bridlepath taking us across Kirkby Stephen and Birkett common where we can enjoy some canters and watch the wild fell ponies grazing with their new born foals. Lunch is a picnic stop beside the enchanting Lammerside castle, now a ruin, overloking the Mallerstang valley. In the afternoon we join the Poetry Path, a beautiful bridleway which brings us to the pretty village of Winton where we will leave the horses to graze overnight.

Todays route takes us from Winton along pretty bridlepaths and green lanes to Soulby and onto the wide open green track of Crosby Garrett Fell where we pick up the pace and have some fast canters. There are amazing views of ther lakeland fells and the green tracks seem to go on forever, here is a clip which gives you a quick glimpse of the beautiful scenery. The distance today is around 16 miles and our overnight stop for our horses is at Newbiggin-on-lune..

allen.jpgDay Three

On day three its more stunning views as we head into the Howgill fells past Green Bell, Wandale hill and finally onto Wild Boar fell. The tracks that hug these hillsides are some of the oldest packhorse routes in England, accessible only on foot. The wildlife is a treat, red squirrals, wild ponies, red deer and oyster catchers are our friends along the way.  After arriving back at the stables around 4pm we will untack, wash off and turn out our horses.
