This holiday starts at 9am on the Tuesday morning and finishes after breakfast on the Friday morning and includes three full day rides on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Additional nights’ accommodation is available on the Monday evening if required. This is a centre based holiday with accommodation based at Stonetrail in The Farmhouse, a restored 16th century farmhouse which overlook our paddocks. Each day we will ride a different circular ride exploring the beautiful bridleways of the Eden Valley. After a wonderful day out on the fells you can treat yourself to a dip in our spa pool before an enjoyable evening visiting one of our local award winning local inns.
The Eden Valley is a horse riders dream offering miles of stunning bridleway routes across open fell and hidden valleys. The area is considered so special it will shortly be included within the new extended boundaries of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. On day one, we follow an ancient bridleway through the Howgill fells towards Ravenstonedale where we stop for lunch at the Kings Head. In the afternoon, we ride over Ash Fell and enjoy the spectacular views across the Eden Valley and Lake District mountains in the distance. On day two we follow the Pennine Bridleway into the beautiful and remote Mallerstang Valley where we ride along the river eden. Lunch is a picnic by the river. In the afternoon, we enjoy some lovely canters across Wharton Fell. On day three, we ride through the Smardale Valley and enjoy some exhilarating canters on Crosby Garret fell, one of the loveliest places you could ever wish to ride a horse. The ride each day generally sets off at 10am and returns by 4pm with a lunch stop of around an hour.
We have lots of great photos taken on previous Eden Valley trail holidays which you can view on our Ride Photos page

This ride is suitable for experienced adult riders who are confident at cantering in open spaces and fit enough to ride for up to 5 hours a day. On open fell we ride in a relaxed order, not nose to tail and riders must be confident at riding at all speeds on undulating terrain. There is no requirement to have any horse care skills, our holidays are a perfect opportunity to learn how to groom and tack up and we are always on hand to show you the ropes ! Our maximum weight limit is 13 stone.
Riders should be equipped with their own riding hat, approved to current standards, and riding boots. Saddle bags and hi vis are provided by us.
Alison and Colin and the Stonetrail team have gained an excellent reputation for putting first the comfort and safety of their riders and horses and providing a well organised ride. Moving a group of horse and riders successfully over several days on distances of up to 80 miles whilst maintaining a high standard of care requires careful planning and experience. Our many years of expeditions across Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales have given us a firm foundation of knowledge, we leave nothing to chance and focus on the small details because we know this makes a difference to your experience.
