Eden Valley Trails Riding Holiday 2019

3 days & 4 nights £545

A centre based holiday with 3 glorious full day trails and spa facilities 

The Eden Valley is the name given to the area surrounding Stonetrail which is renowned for being a horse-riders dream with miles of beautiful scenery leading straight from our gate. This is a centre-based holiday arriving on Monday afternoon with three full day day rides on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. With no need to pack and unpack every day you can relax in our lovely farmhouse, wander across to the stable yard and enjoy some of the finest riding trails in Cumbria. At the end of your ride you can enjoy a dip in our Jacuzzi before a visit to one of our fine cumbrian inns close by.

Daily Itinerary:

9.am                Meet in the stable yard to groom, tack up and pack saddle bags

9.45                 Ride briefing – Explore our route for the day ahead on the map

10am               Mount up and depart for the day

12.30               Tie up the horses in a scenic spot for lunch 

3.30.pm           Return to the stables. Untack, feed, groom and turn out the horses.

4pm                 Get together for tea, cake, and no doubt tales from todays ride !    

Our Horses

We have a super team of well bred horses which are forward going, well mannered and easy to ride. Many have been home bred or bought as youngsters and brought on slowly and carefully by ourselves. They are renowed for being sensible & calm yet fun horses and they are expert at riding across the cumbrian fells being sure footed and willing. Our horses love their job, live as a  herd when not being ridden and make perfect companions for our trail riding adventures.

Accommodation & Meals

This holiday includes 4 nights B&B accommodation Stonetrail sharing one of our lovely farmhouses with your fellow riders. Our properties have been beautifully converted from a range of stone barns and overlook the stables and paddocks. There is a choice of twin, double or single rooms. After your ride each day there is time to enjoy a dip in our indoor jacuzzi ( don’t forget your swimsuit ! Towels are provided and your accommodation will include tea, coffee, milk and cold drinks throughout your stay. A continental breakfast is provided each morning on a self serve basis which includes juice, cereals, croissants, eggs, toast, preserves, yoghurts & fruit. 

A selection  of packed lunch items which include bread rolls, ham, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, pickle, mayonnaise, mustard, fruit and cake are provided in your accommodation for you to prepare your own packed lunch each day. Lunch bags are provided which fit inside your saddle bag. You are welcome to also bring along any special snacks if you wish. 

In  the evening the time is your own to either make your own way to a local pub or stay in and cater for yourself.  Whilst we do not host the evenings we can assist the group with table bookings if needed. Your accommodation has  a fully fitted kitchen with a fridge, freezer, oven and microwave. The nearest supermarket is at Kirkby Stephen ( 7 miles ) and groceries can be ordered online and delivered by Asda. Kirkby Stephen has a chinese and an Indian take-away.     

We have an excellent choice of places to eat nearby. Our nearest Inn, The Fat Lamb is a 15 min walk or a 2 min drive. Guests staying at Stonetrail receive a 10% discount on their food orders at the Fat Lamb. Our local village of Ravenstonedale is 2 miles away and has two lovely pubs, the Kings Head and the Black Swan Inn.  Our website has details of many more great places to eat and visit during your stay. 

Travel and Parking

Stonetrail is situated 20 mins from Junction 38 M6 or 1 hour from Scotch Corner midway between Sedbergh and Kirkby Stephen. Please see our website for directions. The nearest train station is Kirkby Stephen on the Leeds/Settle line. The station is in a remote location 2 miles from the town centre and 4 miles from Stonetrail.  There are no public transport services. We offer a pick up / drop off service at a cost of £5, or, you can arrange your own taxi service. Please advise us when you book if you wish to book transport with ourselves. If you do plan to travel by train please note the nearest pub is a 15 min walk from Stonetrail. 

Is this ride suitable for me ?

This ride is suitable for adult riders who can canter with confidence and ride for up to five hours a day. On this holiday you will be staying onsite at Stonetrail with our horses, which means there is plenty of opportunity for you to help look after your own horse. Do not worry if you have less experience of horse care, we will always be on hand to show you what to do makinbg this an excellent opportunity to improve your knowledge. Please note our maximum weight limit is 13 stone.

What do I need to provide

All you need to bring with you is your own riding hat, approved to current standards, riding boots, gloves and waterproof jacket and trousers ( just in case ). Please bring your own hi-vis gilet if you have one otherwise we will provide you with one of ours. We have excellent drying facilities, any items which get wet can be dried by the next morning.

Saddle bags are provided by us. Your accommodation includes towels.  Tea, coffee, milk, breakfast and packed lunch with water are provided by Stonetrail.        

Organisation and Back Up

The Stonetrail team have gained an excellent reputation for putting first the comfort and safety of their riders and horses, as well as providing a well organised ride.  Moving a group of horses and riders successfully over several days, whilst maintaining a high standard of care, requires careful planning and experience. Our many years of experience in providing expeditions across Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales have given us a firm foundation of knowledge; we leave nothing to chance and focus on the small details, because we know this makes a difference to your experience. Routes are carefully explored and ridden in advance, rides are fully vehicle-supported, accommodation is visited and Alison speaks personally to every rider at the time of booking to make sure they have chosen the right holiday for their level of ability.        

Price 

£545 per person 

Price includes three full-day picnic rides, 4 nights B&B accommodation at Stonetrail  (starting on Monday) in a shared ensuite room and packed lunch. Single rooms available at an additional cost of £20pppn. Evening meals and drinks not included.

How to Book

As always, we are available to chat in person and answer any specific questions you may have about our holidays. 

To make a booking please email us with the name and date of the holiday you wish to book and, if you have not ridden with us before, your height, weight and some brief details about your riding experience. We will then email a booking form and reserve a place for you for up to 7 days. 

To secure the booking all you need to do is return the booking form with a non-refundable deposit of £200.  Payment can be made either by bank-transfer or by cheque (see payment details below). The final balance is due no later than six weeks before the start of your holiday. A full confirmation will be sent with arrival and accommodation details once your deposit has been paid.
