If you are looking to take your horse on holiday with great hacking with the support of an experienced guide then you will love our Trail Riding Horse Camps. It’s a great way to meet new friends and spend some quality time with your horse in a relaxed and non-competitive setting. Whatever level you are at with your riding we will make you a feel very welcome and give you as much support as you need. This is a holiday, not a test or a challenge. On our camp you will enjoy 2 full day picnic rides and 2 half day rides exploring the beautiful bridleways around Kirkby Stephen with the help of an experienced guide. You can also take part in some fun activities to help build trust and confidence with your horse. After your ride each day you can relax in the spa and look forward to an evening in the local inn with your fellow riders. Its horsey heaven here at Stonetrail and we aim to make sure you have a wonderful time and make lasting friendships. We welcome owners who are booking on their own as well as groups. During your holiday you will be sharing one of our lovely farmhouses with your fellow camp riders which overlook the yard and paddocks. We have a choice of single or twin rooms.

We keep the number of horse and riders on each camp limited to 5 plus a guide. Your guide each day will be either Alison Muir or an equally experienced guide. Alison is a qualified BHS Ride Leader and has been guiding horse and riders across Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales for the last 12 year. We have an excellent choice of routes which begin at our gate and lead directly onto the bridle paths. The routes are a varied mixture of grass, stone paths and quiet lanes. This is fell country so please expect some hills. The area is very quiet and we can often ride all day and meet hardly anyone.

Why Choose a Street Farm Horse Camp

Over the last 10 years we have been welcoming riders with their own horses to Street Farm to enjoy the marvellous choice of safe hacking routes, lovely accommodation and purpose built livery facilities for horses on holiday. We run a small and friendly yard which is well organised ensuring you have a safe and enjoyable holiday with us. Our horse camps are ideal for horse owners who would like the sociability of joining a group of riders and want to enjoy some great hacking with the benefit of a guide.

Your horse must be aged 5 and over and be known to be calm and sensible when riding with horses they do not know. Due to the type of terrain our camps are more suited to horses who are used to riding in wide open spaces, up and down hills, through steams & farmyards. When riding on the open common we encounter flocks of sheep and fell ponies who graze freely on the fells, most of these conditions are what you would encounter on a pleasure ride. As guides, we will take charge of the route and the speed. We have a very good understanding of the terrain including safe places where we can enjoy safe canters. Whilst roadwork is kept to a minimum using quiet lanes your horse must be safe on the road. Riders are required to wear hi viz. Stallions are not permitted. You will also need to provide us with a copy of your third party liability insurance, if you do not have insurance we suggest you contact the British Horse Society who offer an excellent package of membership which includes liability insurance for you and your horse. Please visit the BHS website for all details about their excellent insurance packages.

Barefoot Horses - our advice

We often get asked if our routes are suitable for barefoot horses. Our answer is that it depends upon your horse and what he or she is used to. A lot of our routes include grass but there are sections of stone tracks so your barefoot horse will need to be used to mixed terrain.

Camp Plan

Arrive on Monday at midday, settle your horse into the yard and meet your fellow camp riders. Tack up and enjoy a one hour relaxed trek at about 2pm. The bridleway starts at our gate and follows a lovely path onto the hillside behind the farm with stunning views. After the ride there will be a good cup of tea and chance to get to know your fellow camp riders. Early evening you can visit the spa room before a visit to our local inn called The Fat Lamb.

On Tuesday & Wednesday we will tack up, pack our saddle bags with lunch ( saddle bags provided ) and head out about 10.30 for a picnic ride returning to the stables around 3pm. On Thursday we will ride for a couple of hours and return at lunchtime. Each day  will explore a different track & trail with stunning scenery.

First Class Livery Facilities

Our livery facilities have been designed to provide horses on holiday with a warm welcome and a safe environment. Access for trailers and boxes is easy with a wide unfenced drive and plenty of parking. We will meet you on arrival and focus on your horses first making sure they are safely unloaded and turned out in their paddock or stables as you wish. Individual turnout is available if required in small post and rail paddocks which have mains fed water troughs. The paddocks are next to the stables and in view of the cottages. Each horse will be allocated its own stable which is fitted with rubber mats. You can choose to leave your horse out 24 hours or you can bring them in at night, the choice is yours. We ask that you clean your paddock before leaving, wheel barrows and tools provided. Bedding ( shavings) and hay is available at an extra charge if required which can be paid for on the day of departure. We have a secure tack room, drying room and a horse shower with hot water.
