Book a Fell Ride

Our 2019 season starts on Tuesday 2nd April 2019

Book a Fell Ride with Stonetrail and enjoy some of the best off-road horse riding trails in the North of England. From our gate, we have direct access onto the fellside leading to an extensive choice of  bridleway routes lasting from two hours to a full day.

Our routes include beautiful tracks through the Howgill Fells, the Mallerstang Valley, Crosby Garrett Fell, Ash Fell and the wide-open green tracks of Kirkby Stephen common. The area is very quiet, we can often ride all day and hardly meet anyone, a perfect place to unwind and admire the spectacular scenery. Our routes use the old green lanes and tracks across the fellside and historic bridleways which used to connect thriving hamlets, high up on the fellside, which now stand derelict and forgotten. Roadwork on our routes is minimal and, when included, involves quiet, mostly unfenced lanes with little or no traffic.

We have been offering fell rides since 2008 and are proud of our reputation for offering a high quality, fun and safe experience. Our rides are designed to suit intermediate to experienced riders who are happy cantering in open spaces. Our horses are forward-going, yet easy to ride and they have excellent brakes. They have been carefully chosen for their calmness and willingness to happily explore the tracks and trails and enjoy a good canter when asked. When not being ridden, our horses live happily together as a herd, enjoying 40 acreas of grazing and first class horse care.

We are proud to support the British Horse Society who have awarded us a "Highly Commended" rating. All our rides are led by two experienced, qualified staff, who carefully match riders to horses and ensure a high standard of personal attention and safety. Please note that the minimum age for our rides is 10 and our maximum weight limit is 13 stone.
